About the Founder DiAnn Y. Mason

DiAnn has always had a love and passion for reading. From a very young age she remembers the excitement of getting a new Dr. Seuss book in the mail and the enjoyment of reading this book series, among many others, with her mother. She knows the value of parents and children spending time reading together and the benefits derived from this shared experience. She says it was her mother, who is still an avid reader, that introduced her to the wonderful and enlightening avenues that reading opens up for you. “Books can take you anywhere in the world!”

DiAnn has written and journaled for personal enjoyment throughout every important stage of her life. Her two children, Amber and Gary, are her inspiration for writing. However, it was not until they were grown that she had time to focus on her passion for writing. DiAnn is a cancer survivor with a zest and zeal for all that life has to offer. One of her favorite sayings is “If not now, when?”  She consistently lives this statement, opening her mind to the endless possibilities as she pursues making her dreams a reality.

Her first book, "Sleep Pea Angel and Doubtful Davie", was published in April, 2007. As she began reading her book to children, she found that there were older children who couldn’t read well. This bothered her greatly and she was inspired to take action. She wanted to make a profound difference in the lives of children through literacy. She did in fact take action and established the Sleep Pea Angel Literacy Organization, Inc. in September, 2007.

DiAnn has a dream to see all elementary school age children reading at or above their grade level and developing to their fullest potential. The mission of the organization is threefold: develop creative reading and writing programs for elementary school age children, provide new children’s books written by various children’s authors and educators to elementary school age children living in under-served communities, and brighten the smiles and faces of children hospitalized with life threatening medical conditions. The organization is “dedicated to improving the lives of children one book at a time”. Her ultimate vision is to provide literacy programs that benefit children worldwide!

She is a very well-rounded business person with over twenty-five years in corporate America holding various personnel management, project management, senior staff, consultant, sales and marketing positions. In addition, she has her own business, Symphonic Expressions, a company that creates beautiful one-of-a-kind personalized poems, nursery rhymes and all occasion greeting cards.

DiAnn has reached out to others over the airwaves as a radio personality “JaZZi Di for the “Poetry and All That Jazz” show with Captain Mellow on WRFG 89.3FM in Atlanta, GA. She is a member of many business organizations such as Women About Biz and the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE). She is also currently working on the second and third books in the Sleep Pea Angel Adventure Series.

DiAnn is an excellent speaker who captivates audiences of all ages. Her focus is on helping others realize the keys to living their best life and the importance of making each day stand on its own.
